Membership Drive

November/December 2009

Well, it’s hard to believe 2009 is coming to an end and we are once again starting our annual membership drive. This past year has been a very busy one for us and the upcoming year looks to be just as exciting.  Not only are we working diligently in our own community; but we have been meeting with other local Bradford County chambers in an effort to unveil an exciting joint project.  Unfortunately the only way you can be involved in this “business promotion tool” is to be a chamber member.  Look for a press release on this project in the very near future.

The Chamber was thrilled to be able to help beautify the town by putting up the “Welcome to Canton” banners and the Garden Club and VIA assisted us with keeping the flower barrels looking fresh and festive.  A shredder truck was added to Recycle Day, we continued the Farmers Market, the “My Favorite Valentine” contest, Community Yard Sale Days, Community Block Dance, Light Night and brought back “Breakfast with Santa”.  We also added a Canton Christmas Raffle, Lemonade Stand Day and Family Photo Night.  We are proud that we have been able to continue the $500 Mildred Burk Scholarship, provided to a CHS graduating senior majoring in business.  And the “Giving Tree” continues to be a special project of the chamber.  We are still selling Chamber gift certificates, which are redeemable at chamber member businesses, and we have the second edition of the Canton throw for sale.  But none of this would be possible without your help.

Now we want to reward you with this wonderful offer available to all Chamber members; this is something you definitely want to take advantage of.  There are no strings attached!

The Zone (WTZN AM 1310) {WTTC AM 1550) has made an offer that the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce cannot refuse to offer to their current or potential members.

For any business that joins the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce before March 30, 2010, WTZN/WTTC will offer to that business thirty (30) 30 second commercials to run on WTZN AM 1310 WTTC AM 1550 during a one month period.  There will be no charge for this promotion to either the Chamber or the Chamber member.

Any existing Chamber member will also be given thirty (30) 30 second commercials when their membership is renewed with the Chamber.  Again, no charge.

The approximate value of this special offer is $500.  “The Zone” is on two channels; 1310 out of Troy and 1550 out of Towanda.  Any questions can be answered by calling the Chamber at 364-2600 or David “Rocky” Rockwell (The Zone) at 297-0100.

How does the Chamber raise money to continue these projects?  Through your support!  We must work together to help keep money spent locally and to better our community.  Our member rates have not changed and they are still discounted if you pay your membership before December 31st.  We have also added a first time member rate and a multi-business rate.

To help us become a stronger organization we need active members.  It has been wonderful to have new faces over the last few months.  We are always looking for ideas, but are limited as to what we can do with only a few of us actively participating.  We need your help!   The Chamber meets on the first Thursday of each month (unless it falls on the 1st) in the basement of First Citizens National Bank at 12:00 noon.  Please call us or visit our website for additional information.  If you have never joined the Chamber, or haven’t renewed your membership for the last few years, please reconsider or let us know why you don’t want to be a member. Could you suggest what the Chamber could do to encourage you to become a member?  We want to hear from you, good or bad!  This information is helpful in keeping the Chamber going, and we would greatly appreciate your input.

Please join us for our next meeting.  Even if you’re not a member, attend the meeting and see what we’re all about - maybe we can change your mind.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
